Kjell Scherpen is set to join Ipswich Town from Union St-Gilloise for a reported transfer fee of at least €10m, with the English club also open to paying an additional €3m in bonuses.
The 26-year-old Belgian goalkeeper has been one of the standout performers in the Belgian top flight, helping Union St-Gilloise win both the Croky Cup and the Golden Glove award for best goalkeeper.
Scherpen’s move to Ipswich Town comes after a series of loan spells in Europe, including stints at KV Ostende, Vitesse and Sturm Graz.
He joined Brighton & Hove Albion in 2021 on a five-million-euro deal from Ajax, but struggled to make an impact in the Premier League.
Ipswich Town, meanwhile, have strengthened their goalkeeping options with Scherpen’s arrival, although he will face competition for the number one spot from Christian Walton.
