Last summer, Paris Saint-Germain made a major change between the posts. Gianluigi Donnarumma departed after a strong second half of the season, and the club brought in Lucas Chevalier from Lille for around €40 million, not including bonuses. The French goalkeeper was seen as the long-term starter in the capital, but after a disappointing start, he quickly lost his place to Matvey Safonov.
Psg chooses to retain Lucas Chevalier
The Russian international has held onto the starting spot ever since, leading PSG to back-to-back Champions League titles. This situation might suggest Chevalier’s future at the club is uncertain. However, sources close to the Parisian board indicate the club has decided to keep him this summer. A transfer for Lucas Chevalier is not on the cards, as his attitude and the signals he sent during the second half of the season have apparently convinced the PSG staff.
A young goalkeeper arrives
At the same time, PSG is planning for the future in goal. Alessandro Longoni, an 18-year-old Italian goalkeeper, is set to join the capital club on a free transfer from AC Milan. He will compensate for the departure of Renato Marin, who will be loaned for one season to CD Nacional, a Portuguese first-division side. In other words, while Matvey Safonov and Lucas Chevalier will continue to battle for the starting spot next season, Alessandro Longoni and Renato Marin could eventually replace them.
