The Patriots of Senegal for Ethics, Work and Fraternity (PASTEF) party is advancing preparations for its upcoming congress, marked by the official commencement of candidate submissions for the party’s presidency.

A recent announcement from the Haute Autorité de Régulation du Parti (HARP) confirmed that prospective candidates can submit their applications from midnight on May 15, 2026, until noon on May 20, 2026.

The regulatory body further clarified that official declaration forms will be made readily available to all individuals aspiring to lead the political movement.

This procedural step is integral to the broader organizational efforts surrounding the PASTEF congress, an event anticipated to be pivotal for the structuring and consolidation of the ruling party.

Despite the formal process, little uncertainty surrounds this internal election. Ousmane Sonko, the central figure and long-standing leader of the movement, is widely expected to be reconfirmed at the helm of the political formation following the congress.

This significant milestone occurs as PASTEF endeavors to fortify its internal structure post-accession to power, strategically preparing for the subsequent phases of its political agenda.
