On Sunday, Ousmane Sonko, the esteemed leader of PASTEF-Les Patriotes, delivered a significant address in Sadio, located within the Diourbel region. During his speech, he voiced sharp criticisms concerning the current administration’s direction and its alignment with the initial political agenda.
Addressing his fervent supporters, the prominent PASTEF figure recounted the events leading to Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s election as President of the Republic in March 2024. Sonko underscored his pivotal role in endorsing Faye’s candidacy following the disqualification of his own.
“We propelled him to the highest office, yet he has since deviated from the core project, thereby jeopardizing the aspirations of the people, whose hope now seems to have dissipated,” Ousmane Sonko asserted.
The Prime Minister elaborated that the political framework initially presented to the Senegalese populace has gradually drifted from its foundational trajectory. He described this as a “fading hope” and urged a re-commitment to the pledges made to the citizenry.
Sonko further emphasized his indispensable contribution to the political struggle that culminated in the 2024 leadership transition, stressing that much of this transformative process was driven by his vision and initiative.
Looking towards future electoral contests, he highlighted the upcoming elections in 2026 and 2029 as critical junctures for advancing the full implementation of PASTEF’s overarching political agenda.
These pronouncements emerge amidst ongoing speculation regarding the dynamic between the President of the Republic and his Prime Minister. As of now, no official response from the presidency has been issued concerning these remarks.
