Olympique Lyonnais will not receive special dispensation as they embark on their European campaign. Not yet fully qualified for the prestigious Champions League, OL must first navigate a challenging third preliminary round in early August, with the potential for crucial playoff matches looming just two weeks later.

These pivotal playoff fixtures are set to clash just days before the commencement of the Ligue 1 championship, where the squad, under the guidance of Paulo Fonseca, is scheduled to face Toulouse. The Lyon management formally approached the LFP, submitting a request via letter to postpone their opening Ligue 1 fixture. In their appeal, OL emphasized the broader interests of French football to bolster their case.

However, the response from the LFP was unequivocally negative. The league has firmly declined to reschedule any Ligue 1 matches at the very start of the season. Consequently, Olympique Lyonnais must prepare to manage this demanding schedule should they successfully navigate the Champions League qualification playoffs.
