The High Court of Justice in Dakar has postponed the verdict in the case of falsifying the signature of former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, who is accused of using a fake name to sign documents.
Initially scheduled for July 9, 2026, the decision was made due to the absence of Cherif Zeyni Abidin Sy, who is presumed to be Sonko’s accomplice according to reports from Les Échos newspaper.
The court has also rejected Khardiata Tandian’s request for provisional release, citing concerns that her presence could disrupt public order and that she does not meet the necessary conditions for such a measure.
Tandian’s defense team argued that she had been in prison for over a year, was married, and had a child, and that serving time in prison would already cover part of the sentence. However, prosecutors opposed this request, stating that Tandian posed no guarantees to ensure her involvement in justice.
The court ultimately decided to keep Tandian in custody pending the outcome of the case. The decision was made despite defense claims that there were no risks for witness intimidation since the accused had already testified at the bar.
