A joint security commission executed an extensive sweep this past Saturday, August 1, 2026, targeting numerous areas identified as high-crime zones within N’Djamena. This significant intervention, which mobilized various law enforcement agencies and security units including the National and Nomadic Guard of Chad (GNNT), the National Gendarmerie, the National Police, the Judicial Police, and other specialized services, resulted in the arrest of 252 individuals and the seizure of a range of illicit items and substances.

The operation strategically focused on several key sectors across the capital. Among the areas targeted were Mandjakoli in the 5th arrondissement, Roma, Bildo, and Katanga in the 2nd arrondissement, as well as Colombie and other specific neighborhoods known for criminal activity.

According to Hachim Haroum Deby, the Director of Public Security, the crackdown led to the capture of numerous individuals involved in the sale and consumption of various narcotic substances. Noteworthy among the confiscated drugs were those known locally as “Colorado” and “Bongo,” alongside quantities of adulterated alcohol.

The entire mission unfolded under the direct oversight of the Director General of the National Gendarmerie, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Joint Control and Verification Commission. Key leadership from other forces, including the First Deputy General Police Controller and the Second Deputy Commander of the National and Nomadic Guard of Chad (GNNT), were also actively involved in the operation.

Following the successful intervention, all 252 arrested individuals were presented to the press. Security forces also displayed a significant haul of seized items, which included various weapons, computers, mobile phones, and 25 motorcycles.

The comprehensive report on the operation’s outcome was subsequently submitted to General Ali Ahmat Aghabache, the Minister of Public Security and Immigration.

This major security initiative forms an integral part of the ongoing efforts by Chad’s internal security forces. Their continuous objective is to bolster citizen safety, uphold public order, and vigorously combat all manifestations of criminality, with a particular emphasis on disrupting the trafficking and consumption of illicit substances throughout the capital city.
