Rabat hosts high-level talks to boost bilateral trade and investment
Morocco and the United Kingdom are setting ambitious goals to double trade flows and deepen economic ties, leveraging the momentum from major infrastructure projects tied to the 2030 FIFA World Cup. These commitments were underscored during a high-profile business forum in Rabat this week, where senior officials from both nations outlined a shared vision for long-term collaboration.
World Cup 2030 as a catalyst for economic transformation
Speaking at the opening of the Morocco-UK Business Forum, the British Minister of State for International Trade highlighted the World Cup 2030 as a transformative opportunity to enhance bilateral partnerships. The event, attended by a British delegation of government officials and private sector leaders, emphasized the need to not only expand trade volumes but also to build resilient infrastructure, improve public services, and create lasting economic benefits for future generations.
The Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade echoed this sentiment, describing the 2030 World Cup as a pivotal driver for upgrading transportation networks, healthcare facilities, and urban infrastructure nationwide. Beyond the tournament itself, Morocco is rolling out an eight-year strategic plan aimed at modernizing its territorial and economic landscape, positioning itself more competitively in global value chains.
New horizons for British businesses in Morocco
Addressing UK-based companies at the forum, the Moroccan minister extended an invitation to participate in the country’s public procurement opportunities and large-scale transformation projects. The focus is on fostering high-impact partnerships that go beyond conventional technology transfers, prioritizing investment, innovation, and sustainable growth.
The two-day forum, held in Rabat and Casablanca on June 2 and 3, drew nearly 50 UK enterprises across key sectors such as infrastructure, transportation, security, engineering, design, and professional services.
