What began as plans to delegate authority to a single figure has evolved into a broader leadership reshuffle. President Laurent Gbagbo has appointed five high-ranking members of the PPA-CI to key executive positions within the party.

Assoa Adou takes on the role of first vice-president, with a mandate to uphold the party’s ideological principles and ensure adherence to its core values.

Hubert Oulaye, named second vice-president, will oversee internal party affairs and preside over meetings of the central committee.

Emmanuel Ackah, a former ambassador, has been designated third vice-president, responsible for energizing grassroots engagement and mobilizing party activists.

Justin Katinan Koné retains his portfolio, continuing to manage the party’s overall policy direction.

Sébastien Dano Djédjé heads the newly created Strategic and Political Council, tasked with guiding the party’s long-term vision and policy formulation.

Speaking on the changes, President Gbagbo emphasized that this restructuring marks a shift toward a more collegial leadership model, built on the principles of shared responsibility and unified action.

Political analyst Abdourahmane Barry cautions against interpreting this move as a fundamental transformation of the party’s governance. While acknowledging the significance of the new appointments, he points out that strategic decision-making remains firmly under Gbagbo’s control. Barry describes the five leaders as primarily responsible for day-to-day operations, with the overall leadership structure intact.
