Abidjan, July 2026 — The International Trades and Skills Forum (FIMEC) is emerging as a pivotal platform to align Ivory Coast’s economic ambitions with workforce development, according to Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé. Speaking at the opening of the second edition of FIMEC in Abidjan’s Sofitel Hôtel Ivoire, he underscored how the forum bridges the gap between labor market demands and the skills cultivated by training institutions.

The event, themed “Skills, Employment, and Economic Transformation in Africa: The Strategic Role of Vocational Training”, serves as a cornerstone of the National Development Plan (PND) 2026-2030.

Skills as the backbone of economic competitiveness

Prime Minister Mambé highlighted that the PND 2026-2030 aims to fast-track industrialization, boost economic competitiveness, nurture national champions, attract private investment, and create over 3 million jobs by 2030. In this context, he framed skills development not just as an educational policy but as a core economic competitiveness strategy.

« Every investment in skills is an investment in business productivity, economic attractiveness, and national sovereignty, » he emphasized. « Our goal is to cultivate an ecosystem where vocational training fully aligns with national priorities, enhances business competitiveness, drives innovation, and accelerates industrialization. »

A collaborative platform for job creation and economic growth

The FIMEC provides a vital dialogue space between government bodies, private enterprises, training institutions, and development partners. Together, they address pressing challenges in employment, workforce qualification, and economic transformation through coordinated solutions.

« Our duty is to ensure every young person gains the skills to succeed, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to their nation’s progress, » Mambé stated. « This vision guides our reforms and unites us around FIMEC. »

Building Africa’s future through human capital

He noted that the second edition of FIMEC reflects Ivory Coast’s commitment to prioritizing human capital development as a foundation for social and economic transformation. « In a rapidly changing world, economies and professions are evolving. To stay ahead, we must anticipate, innovate, and invest in what matters most: the people who will shape tomorrow’s Africa. »

Over two days, attendees will engage in high-level panels and explore exhibitions showcasing the latest trends in vocational training and economic advancement.
