Côte d’Ivoire: Laurent Gbagbo restructures PPA-CI leadership with new collective direction
Former Ivorian President and PPA-CI leader Laurent Gbagbo has announced a significant restructuring of his party’s leadership, introducing a collaborative governance model with five newly appointed officials. In an official statement released this week, he detailed the creation of four vice-presidential roles and a strategic council presidency, each assigned specific responsibilities to enhance the party’s operational efficiency.
New leadership roles and responsibilities
- Assoa Adou takes on the role of First Vice-President, tasked with upholding the party’s statutes and internal regulations. His mandate includes ensuring alignment between the party’s structures and its foundational principles and strategic vision.
- Oulaye Hubert, appointed Second Vice-President, is responsible for overseeing party life and presiding over Central Committee sessions, as outlined by the party’s governing documents.
- Ackan Emmanuel, the Third Vice-President, will focus on party revitalization, boosting political engagement, and expanding the party’s national outreach. He will also manage institutional relations in accordance with the party’s leadership directives.
- Justin Koné Katinan assumes the role of Fourth Vice-President, where he will oversee the party’s general policy framework. His responsibilities include policy coordination, implementation tracking, and leading government program development initiatives.
- Sébastien Dano Djedje has been named President of the Strategic and Political Council (CSP), serving as the party’s general delegate with authority over its overall management and political direction.
A shift toward collective leadership
Addressing the reshuffle, Laurent Gbagbo emphasized the strategic shift toward a more decentralized and collaborative leadership approach. He highlighted that this new structure reflects the party’s commitment to shared responsibility and unified action, stating: «The strength of our movement lies not in a single individual, but in the collective effort of our leaders and activists united by a shared vision.»
The restructuring initiative follows a formal announcement made during the recent PPA-CI Renaissance Day celebrations in Songon M’Bratté, where Gbagbo outlined plans to enhance the party’s functionality, effectiveness, and operational capacity.
