Gabon’s head of state, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, landed in Banjul yesterday for a four-day state and friendship visit to Gambia. Warmly received by Gambia’s President Adama Barrow, the two leaders held a private meeting followed by bilateral talks at the official residence. Discussions focused on deepening existing cooperation and identifying fresh avenues for partnership between the nations. Commitments were reaffirmed to strengthen economic ties and promote sustainable development in both countries. A second meeting is scheduled for today.
This visit, aimed at reinforcing the Libreville-Banjul axis, will also include tours of key governmental facilities and historical landmarks. Scheduled stops include the National Food and Drug Quality Control Laboratory in Brusubi, the University of Gambia, the National Emergency Treatment Centre in Farato, and the renowned Kachikally Crocodile Pool in Bakau.

The leaders underscored the importance of collaboration in sectors including trade, infrastructure, and healthcare. The timing of this visit aligns with Gambia’s strong economic performance, driven by tourism, agriculture, and re-export trade. Recent data shows real GDP growth of 6.1%, supported by a thriving services sector.
