During a strategic working visit to Dakar, Senegal, Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, the Gabonese Minister of State for Transports, Merchant Marine, and Logistics, met with his Senegalese counterpart, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye. The high-level discussions centered on upgrading infrastructure and strengthening bilateral partnerships, marking a major step forward in knowledge sharing between Libreville and Dakar.
Gabon aims to replicate Senegal’s successful model to restructure its own systems. The Minister of State noted that his team held productive discussions covering various aspects of both land and air transport. Indeed, Senegal’s management of the Blaise Diagne International Airport, alongside its expanding road and rail networks, serves as an inspiring benchmark for Gabonese authorities.
Aligning regulatory frameworks and safety standards
The two officials also focused on aligning regulatory and safety frameworks to meet international standards, ensuring seamless operations. They discussed pooling resources for technical management, airport security, and professional training within the sector.
By adopting Senegal’s proven strategies, Gabon plans to accelerate the modernization of its facilities, optimize domestic traffic management, and overhaul public transport. This initiative is designed to revitalize a sector in urgent need of upgrade. Additionally, the Gabonese government representative emphasized that this collaborative learning process includes strategic planning for logistics infrastructure and multimodal transport. The goal is to establish seamless connections between land routes and air networks, effectively connecting remote regions and facilitating the movement of people and goods, with Dakar serving as a prime model for Libreville.
Strengthening South-South cooperation
Beyond technical cooperation, this partnership underscores a shared commitment to boosting South-South cooperation. Both nations believe that by pooling efforts and sharing best practices, Gabon and Senegal can transform their transport sectors into powerful drivers of economic growth, trade, and continental integration.
