The French Embassy in Mali marked French National Day with an evening gathering at the Residence of France in Bamako on July 14, 2026.

The event, imbued with warmth and camaraderie, welcomed the French Ambassador to Mali, along with Mali’s Deputy Secretary-General of Foreign Affairs, military leaders, diplomatic representatives, French expatriates, government officials, private sector representatives, and civil society members.

Following the playing of both national anthems, Ambassador Éric Gérard delivered a speech that resonated deeply with attendees. He reflected on the significance of July 14 for France and the French people, emphasizing the core republican values of liberty, equality, and fraternity.

The ambassador also highlighted the enduring friendship between France and Mali, forged through decades of shared history and mutual respect. He paid tribute to the veterans in attendance, whose contributions have shaped this bond.

« This friendship is built day by day. We must continue to strengthen our ties through honesty, mutual respect, and sincerity. We have always been able to speak frankly to one another, » he stated.

Ambassador Gérard underscored the robust cooperation between the two nations, citing 39 active projects spanning critical sectors such as water supply, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, education, and youth and civil society initiatives. « The meeting between our heads of state on January 29 in Paris was a pivotal moment that redefined this partnership, » he noted.

He also highlighted the significance of the Africa-France Summit in Nairobi, where 49 African nations, including Mali, convened at the highest levels to discuss shared challenges and opportunities.

The ambassador emphasized France’s commitment to supporting Mali’s development through the national development plan, « Mali Vision 2030, » a strategic roadmap aimed at transforming the country’s future.

The evening concluded on a high note, celebrating the enduring friendship and collaboration between Mali and France.
