Arthur Zagré, a promising left-back who honed his skills at Paris Saint-Germain and represented France at youth international levels, has made the significant decision to switch his sporting allegiance to Burkina Faso.
At 24 years old, Zagré, a versatile defender currently playing for Excelsior Rotterdam, where he has contributed 3 goals and 2 assists this season in the Eredivisie, is set to embrace his ancestral roots by joining the Burkinabè national team. This move, confirmed by sources close to the national squad, signifies a major boost for the West African nation’s football ambitions.
Under the guidance of coach Amir Abdou, who took the helm in March, the Stallions are expected to welcome Zagré into their ranks as early as the upcoming June friendly matches, which will see them face Belarus and Russia.
Tuchel provided league one debut
Known for his adaptability, Arthur Zagré is equally adept at operating higher up the left flank or in a defensive midfield role. He is currently in his third season in the Netherlands with Excelsior Rotterdam. His professional journey began with a notable debut in Ligue 1 during the 2019-2020 season’s third fixture, a milestone achieved under coach Tuchel. Following his time at PSG, the Neuilly-sur-Seine native surprised many by subsequently signing with AS Monaco.
His career path included loan spells at Dijon, Utrecht, and ultimately, Excelsior Rotterdam, where this powerful left-footed player found stability in the port city. With his contract with the Roodzwarten expiring this coming June, the diminutive yet impactful player (1m68) is widely anticipated to seek new opportunities this summer. Before any club moves, he is poised to make his inaugural appearances for his chosen national team.
