Following the chaotic scenes that led to the premature termination of FC Nantes’ latest Ligue 1 fixture against Toulouse, sanctions are now under discussion. Roland Menu, president of the “Allez Nantes Canaris” supporters’ club, expresses his outrage at the unacceptable violence.

The match was halted after multiple incidents, including pitch invasions, object throwing, and the ignition of smoke bombs. Roland Menu, a lifelong FC Nantes supporter, leads the “Allez Nantes Canaris” club and speaks out against the actions that could severely impact the team.

“A disgrace, cowards”

Do you agree with coach Vahid Halilhodžić’s assessment and other fans who described the perpetrators as “disgraceful” and “cowardly” following last night’s disturbances?

Absolutely disgraceful, and yes, they are cowards. I am deeply saddened by what transpired. While we all share frustration over the team’s current situation, invading the pitch is beyond unacceptable. We do not condone such behavior, especially knowing the severe consequences it will bring.

We had anticipated some form of protest, perhaps at full-time, but never expected such violence mid-match. The scale and intensity took everyone by surprise.

Shared disappointment

Coach Halilhodžić’s reaction was understandable. He pleaded for calm, urging fans to return to the stands so the match could resume. As his final game with the club, this turn of events is heartbreaking.

Potential sanctions loom

The French Football League will announce its decision on May 27. The most immediate concern is the threat of matches played behind closed doors. Imagine beginning next season without supporters—no atmosphere, no encouragement. Worse still, point deductions could cripple our chances from the start, similar to what Saint-Étienne faced four years ago.

The Brigade Loire, often associated with fan culture, has come under scrutiny. Some defend their role in creating stadium atmosphere, but their involvement in yesterday’s chaos cannot be justified. Pitch invasions are not supporter behavior—they are acts of vandalism.

Are these individuals true supporters?

No. True supporters rally behind their team through every challenge. What we witnessed was anything but support.

Will you continue supporting FC Nantes even in Ligue 2?

Without question. Through decades of highs and lows, good and bad management, our loyalty remains with FC Nantes. The team is bigger than any setback.
