The former Senegalese football star, El-Hadji Diouf, has been handed a one-year suspended prison sentence by a Dakar court after failing to meet his child support obligations.

In a ruling handed down on May 12, 2026, the court also ordered the ex-Lions of Teranga striker to pay his ex-wife, Valérie Émilie Joséphine Leres Bishop, 10 million West African CFA francs (approximately 15,244 euros) in damages.

The dispute centered on unpaid alimony totaling 9 million CFA francs covering the period from March 2024 to September 2025, along with an additional 559,200 CFA francs for meal expenses incurred by their daughter.

Back in July 2023, the Senegalese justice system had already ruled on the couple’s divorce, granting custody of their daughter to the mother while mandating Diouf to pay a monthly allowance of 500,000 CFA francs for the child’s upkeep.

With 60 caps and 18 goals for Senegal’s national team, Diouf remains one of the country’s most celebrated footballers.
