In a vibrant display of political energy, hundreds of enthusiastic supporters turned out to welcome Ousmane Sonko, leader of the Pastef (Power) party and Senegal’s Prime Minister, during a large-scale pedestrian march in Dakar on Sunday, May 17.

The event, organized by the local branch of Sonko’s party, kicked off at Place de la Nation and culminated at the Rond-point Jet d’eau. Dressed entirely in white, Sonko was greeted by a jubilant crowd that repeatedly chanted, “Sonko Président!” before he engaged in a meet-and-greet session with the public.

Key figures from the party, including Dakar Mayor Abass Fall and Higher Education Minister Daouda Ngom, joined Sonko in the procession. The march bore the theme “Dakar in motion behind the Pros”, symbolizing the collective drive to champion citizen participation and peaceful activism. It also aimed to reinforce unity around Sonko’s vision ahead of the party’s upcoming leadership congress scheduled for June 6, 2026.
