The second edition of the Student Banker Day (JEB) and the inaugural Mentoring Day, organized by the Alumni and Banking Students Association of Félix Houphouët-Boigny University (AEB-UFHB) in collaboration with Afrique Femme, the Ministry of Youth Promotion, Professional Integration and Civic Service, and the Youth Employment Agency, took place at the University’s Cocody campus.
M. Anderson ASSUI, Special Advisor to the Minister of Youth Promotion, Professional Integration and Civic Service, represented the Minister during the opening ceremony, underscoring the event’s alignment with national youth employment strategies.
The first Mentoring Day introduced a groundbreaking element: TED-style talks designed to foster soft skills, leadership, personal growth, and mentorship. These sessions connected students with seasoned professionals and industry leaders, equipping them with critical insights for navigating the competitive job market.
Two TED talks stood out. The first, led by M. Assolé Dabiré, Human Resources Director at Zenith Bank Côte d’Ivoire, explored the soft skills most valued by employers. The second, delivered by Mme Fanta Traoré, Managing Director of Empower Consulting, highlighted how strategic networking can unlock career opportunities and drive long-term professional success.
The event also featured two high-level panel discussions. The first focused on digital transformation and interoperability within the West African Monetary Union (UEMOA), bringing together experts from the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), Wave, Djamo, and Visa. Panelists tackled the future of payment systems, financial innovation, and inclusive finance.
The second panel delved into life insurance, pension funds, and economic financing, featuring a keynote by Jean Kacou Diagou, Founder and Chairman of the NSIA Group. Through a compelling narrative of his entrepreneurial journey, he shared pivotal lessons on resilience, integrity, and long-term vision, inspiring students to embrace perseverance in their careers.
Beyond the panels and talks, students engaged in one-on-one interactions with speakers, received tailored career guidance, and expanded their professional networks through structured mentoring and networking sessions. The organizers emphasized the event’s role in bridging the gap between academia and the financial sector, fostering skill development, and preparing young professionals for the evolving demands of the job market.
