Laurent Gbagbo, the esteemed former Ivorian president and current leader of the Parti des Peuples Africains-Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI), has made a significant decision to entrust specific presidential powers within the party to five prominent political figures.
This strategic move was officially communicated in a PPA-CI statement, which was reviewed on Monday, August 10, 2026.
The communiqué, bearing Laurent Gbagbo’s signature, outlines key appointments: Mr. Assoa Adou assumes the role of First Vice-President, tasked with upholding the party’s ideological line and ensuring adherence to its statutes and internal regulations across all organs and among all cadres. Concurrently, Mr. Hubert Oulaye is designated as Second Vice-President, responsible for overseeing the party’s daily operations and presiding over Central Committee meetings.
Furthermore, Mr. Dano Djédjé Sébastien has been appointed President of the Strategic and Political Council, a position that grants him oversight of the party’s general direction and supervision.
Reflecting on this decision, former President Laurent Gbagbo articulated, “This deliberate choice to redistribute certain prerogatives among these five leaders underscores our commitment to fostering a more collegiate leadership model, one built on complementary responsibilities and unified action.”
He emphasized that this delegation of authority stems from a firm belief that “the party’s strength does not reside in a single individual, but rather in the collective capacity of its leaders and members to collaborate towards a shared vision.”
The PPA-CI President concluded, “It is through unity, discipline, and complementary efforts that challenges can be overcome. This approach will enable the PPA-CI to triumph over adversity and serve the Ivorian people effectively.”
