The official launch ceremony of the Tchad-China Friendship Park took place this past Thursday, marking a significant step in environmental and socioecological cooperation between the two nations. Under the leadership of Prime Minister and Head of Government, Ambassador Allah Maye Halina, the event highlighted the park’s dual role as a recreational space and a model of sustainable urban development.

Developed by the Ministry of Environment, Fisheries, and Sustainable Development through the National Agency of the Great Green Wall, the project aligns with Tchad’s commitments to the Great Green Wall initiative. The ministry’s vision extends beyond mere aesthetics, emphasizing ecological resilience and community well-being.

N’Djamena’s Mayor, Senoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, emphasized the park’s symbolic value. “This landmark represents not just a friendship between Tchad and China, but a testament to successful, genuine cooperation,” he remarked during the ceremony.

The Minister of Environment, Fisheries, and Sustainable Development, Hassan Bakhit Djamous, elaborated on the project’s deeper purpose. “The Tchad-China Friendship Park is far more than a leisure space; it embodies our shared dedication to environmental stewardship and inclusive urban growth. Designed as a hub for education, social cohesion, and recreation, it reflects our ambition to create greener, more sustainable cities for all.”

Echoing these sentiments, Chinese Ambassador Wang Xining described the park as “a tangible symbol of the deep bonds between our nations, where nature and diplomacy intertwine.”

Prime Minister Allah Maye Halina concluded the event by reinforcing the strength of the Sino-Tchadian relationship. “This park is yet another milestone in our enduring partnership, rooted in mutual respect, cooperation, and shared prosperity,” he stated.

Spread across 12,460 square meters, the park integrates green infrastructure, renewable energy, water conservation, and recreational facilities. Its design prioritizes urban greening, aiming to enhance the local microclimate, reduce heat islands, improve rainwater infiltration, and boost biodiversity in the heart of N’Djamena.

Energy independence is a cornerstone of the project, powered entirely by a 30-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system paired with a 50-kilowatt-hour smart battery storage unit. This setup ensures uninterrupted power for lighting, administrative buildings, water pumping, and other essential services within the park.

Water management is equally innovative, featuring a 92-meter-deep borehole with a flow rate of 20 cubic meters per hour. The system includes a water tower, distribution network, and a community water point, supporting landscape maintenance while serving nearby residents.

The park’s amenities reflect a blend of functionality and symbolism. Highlights include a monument celebrating Tchad-China friendship, a multipurpose pavilion, children’s play areas, fitness zones, prayer spaces, administrative offices, service kiosks, public restrooms, internal pathways, parking facilities, and a solar-powered public lighting network.
