Three weeks after the African Nations Cup (CAN) 2025 hosting rights were revoked from Senegal and awarded to Morocco due to incidents during the final in Rabat, the Senegalese Football Federation has now received the official notification and detailed rationale behind the decision from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This formal communication marks a critical milestone, paving the way for Senegal to file a structured appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), as reported by RMC.
CAS to deliver verdict promptly
The CAF President has confirmed that the final ruling will be entrusted to the CAS, though no specific timeline has been disclosed. However, the tribunal is expected to reach a decision within the coming weeks, with no further appeals possible once the verdict is rendered—binding both Senegal and Morocco.
«The CAS is fully equipped to handle such disputes, leveraging specialized and independent arbitrators,» stated Me Matthieu Reeb, CAS Secretary General, in a recent interview. «We acknowledge the urgency for teams and fans awaiting a resolution and will ensure the arbitration process is expedited while guaranteeing all parties a fair trial.»
