Borussia Dortmund has reportedly reached an agreement with Italian top-flight club Como 1907 for the transfer of Yan Couto, concluding extensive negotiations.

While Dortmund will not secure a direct sale for the Brazilian defender, a preliminary agreement for a loan deal is in place between the two clubs. The final steps now involve incorporating a purchase option into the arrangement.

Dortmund initially brought Couto in on loan from Manchester City in 2024, simultaneously agreeing to an easily activated purchase obligation. This meant the German club was compelled to permanently sign the Brazilian international in the summer of 2025 for a total sum of 25 million euros, despite Couto failing to truly impress during his inaugural year at Dortmund and frequently finding himself on the bench.

Throughout the most recent season, Couto continued to struggle for consistent starting opportunities. In the latter stages of the campaign, coach Niko Kovac barely utilized the 24-year-old, who accumulated a mere twelve minutes of play over two months between mid-March and mid-May.

Consequently, BVB remained open to the departure of the full-back, whose current contract extends until 2030. Como swiftly emerged as a strong contender for his signature, though a potential transfer seemed to falter earlier in July. At that time, reports indicated that Como’s interest in Couto had cooled significantly, with the Italian club reportedly exploring other options for a new right-back.

However, Couto now appears to be a viable solution that Como coach Cesc Fabregas is willing to embrace. Last season, the Spanish tactician guided his team, featuring playmaker Nico Paz, to a commendable fourth-place finish in Serie A. This impressive performance means Couto would continue to compete in the prestigious Champions League should his move to Como materialize.
