The deputy departmental head of the National Youth Council of Côte d’Ivoire (CNJCI) in Bondoukou urged local youth leaders to adopt a measured and responsible approach to political participation during a capacity-building workshop held Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The session, organized at the regional youth directorate headquarters, centered on the theme “Engaging youth associations and leaders in politics: what responsible posture?” It sought to foster a generation of young people committed to peace, social cohesion, and civic responsibility in a politically sensitive environment.
Empowering youth for constructive civic involvement
Alexis Adjoumani Kouadio, who led the workshop, emphasized the critical role of youth organizations in collaborating with public authorities. “These platforms exist to bridge the gap between young people and institutions,” he stated. “Every leader must recognize their duties and set an example of integrity toward both the state and society.”
He urged youth associations to remain pillars of civic education and trusted partners of government agencies in promoting values such as dialogue, active citizenship, and peaceful coexistence.
Building strong, neutral leadership within associations
Kouacou Désiré, regional director of the Ministry of Youth, Professional Integration, and Civic Service for the Gontougo region, highlighted the need for leaders who can energize their organizations without compromising neutrality amid political tensions.
“Being an association president is just the first step,” he noted. “True leadership means energizing your group, uniting members, and driving initiatives that benefit local communities.”
He added that the workshop aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of responsible leadership, conflict resolution, organizational governance, and safeguarding youth movements from political manipulation.
Youth as a force for stability and development
Gnaihi Hugues, representing the regional prefect of Gontougo, praised the initiative for positioning young people as key agents of social stability and progress. “The youth represent an invaluable asset for our nation,” he said. “They must be champions of social cohesion, peace, and active citizenship.”
The event featured several expert-led discussions, including a session on association management led by Jean Pierre Kouassi, a testimonial on youth engagement by Gla Serge, and a panel moderated by Pascal Kouamé that explored how young leaders should navigate political involvement.
Attendees included neighborhood and village youth presidents, association leaders, student representatives, and advocates for civic and community leadership from across the Gontougo region.
