In a dedicated effort to monitor major projects aimed at modernizing Bénin’s national road network, Georges Alé, the Minister of Living Environment and Transport, conducted an inspection tour last Tuesday. His visit focused on three critical construction sites, underscoring the paramount importance of technical excellence, environmental protection, public health considerations, and strict adherence to contractual schedules.
The ministerial delegation’s initial stop led them to the Djonou bridge, situated within the Abomey-Calavi commune. At this location, dredging operations have been successfully brought to completion. This vital work has effectively cleared the waterway, significantly enhancing the evacuation of rainwater and bolstering the structural integrity and safety of the bridge itself.
Following this, the Minister proceeded to the construction site for the dual carriageway development of the Missessinto-Allada section (RNIE2). This significant undertaking is being executed by the joint venture SCET Tunisie / BECI BTP. While commending the commendable progress and positive momentum observed in the works, Georges Alé firmly reiterated the necessity of scrupulously respecting the agreed-upon timeline. The objective remains to swiftly provide users with a modern and secure thoroughfare.
The inspection concluded at the Allada roundabout and the associated retention basins established in the vicinity. With a keen focus on sanitation concerns, the Minister directed the technical teams to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Health. This proactive approach aims to anticipate and mitigate any potential health risks that could arise from stagnant water accumulation in the area.
Concluding his comprehensive visit, Georges Alé reaffirmed the government’s overarching vision: « We are constructing infrastructure for future generations. This commitment necessitates integrating safety, public health, and uncompromised quality into every single element we build. »
