Chronicler Badara Gadiaga recently launched a scathing critique regarding the handling of political funds by Ousmane Sonko during his tenure as head of government. Appearing on the Jakaarlo program this Friday, Gadiaga highlighted that 142 days have elapsed since the former Prime Minister’s dismissal from the Primature on May 22, 2026. He contends that throughout this period, Sonko virtually depleted the entire 1.77 billion CFA franc allocation designated for political expenditures. According to Gadiaga, Ousmane Sonko left his successor, Al Aminou Lo, with less than 70 million CFA francs upon his departure.
Performing a detailed calculation, the political commentator determined that this sum translates to an approximate daily expenditure of 12 million CFA francs during Ousmane Sonko’s time at the Primature. Gadiaga starkly contrasted this figure with the struggles faced by university students concurrently, specifically referencing the tragic death of young Abdoulaye Ba, who was demanding the payment of his 40,000 CFA franc scholarship. For Badara Gadiaga, this profound disparity reveals a significant contradiction between the official rhetoric surrounding the Economic and Social Recovery Plan (PRES) and the actual management of public finances by the former head of government, who he claims had access to over 300,000 CFA francs monthly from these funds. It is this stark imbalance – between the plight of distressed students and the substantial amounts utilized within the Primature – that the chronicler emphatically labels as “vampirism.”
