Jean Kaseya, the director general of Africa CDC, reported having a productive conversation with French Health Minister Stéphanie Rist following the confirmation of an imported case of Ebola virus disease, specifically the Bundibugyo strain, on French soil.

He welcomed France’s commitment that no travel restrictions would be imposed in relation to this case.

The patient is a Congolese humanitarian doctor who had been involved in the Ebola response in Ituri on behalf of the NGO ALIMA. He tested positive after arriving in France, where he normally resides. This is the first confirmed case of Ebola on French territory.

Kaseya affirmed that Africa CDC, the World Health Organization, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, along with French and Congolese authorities, remain fully committed to containing the outbreak, protecting communities, and advancing a coordinated response at both continental and global levels.
