A powerful perspective on the Malian crisis
Between January 23 and February 12, the Halles Saint-Géry in Brussels will be the stage for a significant photographic event. Seven humanitarian NGOs have partnered to present “In Their Eyes,” an exhibition designed to raise awareness about the ongoing crisis in Mali, which currently impacts more than 6.4 million people.

Documenting life in Gao and Mopti
The collection features thirty works by Malian photographer Tiécoura N’Daou. Captured in September 2025, these images originate from the Gao and Mopti regions. These are key areas where international organizations implement essential projects with support from the European Union. The organizers state that the goal is to portray the crisis through the lived experiences of those facing displacement and loss, while also showcasing the tireless work of humanitarian teams.
An alarming humanitarian landscape
NGOs describe the current state of affairs in Mali as deeply concerning. Internal displacement has affected over 400,000 individuals, the majority of whom are women and children. The nation is also grappling with a severe food shortage affecting 1.5 million people, with an equivalent number of children under five suffering from acute malnutrition. In 2024 alone, records showed more than 35,000 instances of human rights violations.
The exhibition is a collaborative initiative by the following organizations:
- Médecins du Monde
- Action contre la Faim
- The Norwegian Refugee Council
- The Danish Refugee Council
- International Medical Corps
- The International Rescue Committee
- Première Urgence Internationale
This project is made possible through the support of the European Union.
