Abidjan, 24 July 2026 — Adama Bictogo, deputy mayor of Yopougon, will launch a sweeping political outreach campaign on Saturday, 25 July 2026, ahead of the 66th anniversary of Côte d’Ivoire’s independence, set for 7 August in this bustling district of Abidjan’s autonomous region.
In a press release distributed on Friday by his office, the lawmaker outlined a day-long itinerary that will take him to meet grassroots activists from four major political parties active in his constituency. The tour begins at 11:00 AM with a gathering of COJEP militants in Kouté, followed by a 3:00 PM stop in Sicogi Vegas to engage with PDCI-RDA supporters. At 4:00 PM, he will address RHDP members at their headquarters, wrapping up the day at 5:00 PM in the Maroc Kimi neighborhood with FPI activists.
The initiative is part of a broader mobilization drive led by the Yopougon National Celebration Committee, which aims to include every political voice in the commune to ensure the historic event’s success. Yopougon, a microcosm of Côte d’Ivoire’s political and social fabric, has been chosen as the host community for this milestone celebration, reinforcing its role as a unifying symbol across party lines.
Beyond symbolism, the tour seeks to deepen grassroots involvement, empowering local militants and residents from diverse neighborhoods to take an active role in preparing for the festivities that will unite the entire commune. This effort builds on momentum from an earlier meeting held on 13 July, where representatives from RHDP, PDCI-RDA, FPI, and COJEP convened to establish preparatory committees for the occasion.
During that gathering, Adama Bictogo underscored the need for cohesive coordination to guarantee the event’s success. « Achieving our goals requires unified leadership, » he stressed, urging parties to prioritize a « message of peace and togetherness. » He also emphasized that the collective effort should not be seen as favoring any single political group. « This isn’t about benefiting one party over another—it’s about lifting all of us together, » he stated.
