The first stone of the Yaoundé drinking water supply network reconfiguration project was laid on Thursday, June 25, 2026 in Minkoameyos. This initiative aims to sustainably improve access to clean water for several localities in Cameroon’s capital and its outskirts.
The official groundbreaking ceremony for the reconfiguration of Yaoundé’s drinking water supply network took place Thursday on the esplanade of the Yaoundé VII town hall in Minkoameyos. The event was chaired by the Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, accompanied by the Director General of Camwater, Dr Blaise Moussa, as well as government members, the diplomatic corps, local elected officials and civil society representatives.
Ordered by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, this key project aims to strengthen the drinking water supply for populations in Yaoundé, Soa, Akak, Mfou, Bikok and Mbankomo, especially those who are not yet connected to the network or suffer frequent disruptions. Non-domestic subscribers, including industries, schools and hospitals, are also among the main beneficiaries of this initiative.
To ensure the success of this project, Minister Gaston Eloundou Essomba urged all stakeholders to work hand in hand and in perfect synergy to facilitate the execution of works on the ground. For his part, the Camwater CEO assured that his institution will spare no effort to support and assist in lifting any potential obstacles to the realization of this important project, for the benefit of the populations of Yaoundé and its surroundings, whose daily needs are constantly growing.
