The United Nations Security Council has issued a strong condemnation of the recent “heinous terrorist assaults” targeting Mali, underscoring that terrorism, in all its manifestations, poses one of the most severe threats to global peace and security.

In a statement released on Friday, the executive body of the United Nations articulated its “most forceful condemnation of the atrocious and cowardly terrorist acts” that occurred across various regions of Mali on April 25 and in subsequent days, specifically on May 6. These attacks resulted in numerous fatalities and injuries.

The fifteen member states additionally stressed the critical importance of bringing to justice all individuals responsible for perpetrating, organizing, funding, and sponsoring these terrorist acts.

Reiterating its stance that all acts of terrorism are inherently criminal and indefensible, regardless of their motives, location, timing, or perpetrators, the Council reaffirmed the imperative for all nations to combat the threats to international peace and security posed by such acts. This combat must be waged through all available means and in full adherence to the United Nations Charter and other international legal obligations.
