Congo-Kinshasa President Felix Tshisekedi has welcomed Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni in his private farm in Kisozi, where they discussed regional security and efforts to strengthen peace and stability in the Great Lakes region. The meeting was part of diplomatic consultations between Kinshasa and Kampala aimed at addressing persistent security challenges in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
During their talks, Museveni said they had discussed issues of mutual interest, including the deteriorating situation in eastern DRC. The president emphasized that peace and stability in our region are crucial to the prosperity of our people, and he reiterated his commitment to working with regional partners to overcome security challenges.
Floribert Anzuluni Isiloketshi, Congo’s special envoy to Uganda, expressed gratitude for Museveni’s warm welcome and praised the president’s commitment to peace in eastern DRC. ‘I thank President Museveni for the warm reception we received,’ he said. ‘I commend his efforts to bring peace to our region.’
The meeting comes as provinces in North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri continue to face persistent insecurity. Ongoing offensives by the Allied Democratic Forces/3 June Movement (ADF/M23) and rebel attacks by the Forces démocratiques alliées (ADF) have displaced populations and complicated stabilization efforts by Congolese authorities.
As Congo’s special envoy, Anzuluni is tasked with conveying Kinshasa’s messages to regional leaders to strengthen political and diplomatic cooperation on initiatives aimed at restoring durable peace in eastern DRC.
The collaboration between Kinshasa and Kampala remains a key driver of this regional strategy. Since November 2021, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Armed Forces (FARDC) and Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) have jointly conducted the Shujaa operation to neutralize ADF fighters responsible for attacks on civilians in eastern DRC. This military collaboration has been renewed several times and remains a cornerstone of efforts to combat armed groups.
Beyond security, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda are also strengthening their economic partnership, particularly through infrastructure development projects aimed at facilitating trade exchanges and supporting regional integration.
