Ahmat Bedei Toullomi, the President of the Borkou Provincial Council, was taken into custody in N’Djamena late Thursday afternoon and transferred to the General Coordination of the Judicial Police. The operation occurred within the premises of the Hôtel La Résidence, just before 5:00 PM.
This arrest follows the filing of a legal complaint for defamation and public insults. According to court documents, the complaint was lodged by Goudje Gueillet Hemchi and Kodou Omari, who accuse Ahmat Bedei Toullomi of spreading false allegations on social media.
In their filings, the complainants deny the accusations vehemently, labeling them as ‘completely baseless and fabricated’, and argue that such claims have severely damaged their reputations and standing in the community.
Legal proceedings and background
A formal summons was issued by the prosecutor’s office at the N’Djamena Court of First Instance on August 4, 2026, requiring Ahmat Bedei Toullomi to appear and address the allegations against him. Despite multiple prior summonses, he failed to respond, prompting authorities to take decisive action.
Following his detention, a statement was posted on his Facebook page at 5:10 PM, reading: ‘Either the Marshal stands with all of us, or criminals hold more power than the law. I have been abducted.’
Authorities have emphasized that this arrest is part of a standard judicial procedure and not an extrajudicial act.
