Ousmane Sonko’s recent visit to Mbacké and Touba turned into a platform for scathing political revelations, where the leader of Pastef delivered fiery speeches that left the audience stunned. Following the launch of the voter card distribution campaign, Sonko held a pivotal meeting in Ngacc, where he spared no criticism for political figures accused of seeking personal gain under the guise of public service.

He condemned the relentless pursuit of ministerial positions, highlighting what he described as a betrayal of Pastef’s core values. “A Pastef minister does not embezzle funds or inflate contracts. If their integrity is compromised, they resign,” he declared, emphasizing his party’s commitment to ethical governance. “It is futile to accumulate wealth while bowing before others. We stand by our principles.”

Allegations of diverted public funds

Sonko dropped a bombshell by accusing unnamed officials of channeling embezzled public money to the holy city of Touba. “Public funds have been poured into Touba—these are stolen resources,” he asserted, suggesting the funds were not intended for development but to serve hidden political agendas. The claim threatens to ignite fresh controversies, particularly regarding the delicate relationship between state authorities and religious institutions.

Direct confrontation with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye

The most explosive moment came when Sonko recounted alleged remarks by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye targeting directors general affiliated with Pastef. “You cannot be my DG while working toward someone else’s election in 2029,” Sonko quoted the President as saying, before firing back: “If he wishes, let him fire all Pastef DGs by Wednesday.” He stressed that these officials earned substantial incomes before their appointments and do not rely on these roles for survival.

Sonko also chastised the President for treating Pastef leaders as messianic figures, urging him to focus on more pressing national concerns. “He risks dragging this country down by appointing unqualified individuals left and right,” he warned, signaling a deepening rift between Sonko and Faye as their public exchanges grow increasingly heated.
