Sonko Issues Firm Stance Against Delaying 2027 Local Elections
The leader of PASTEF, Ousmane Sonko, delivered a decisive message during his Sunday inauguration rally at the Dakar Arena, addressing concerns about a possible postponement of the upcoming local elections.
Addressing a packed audience of party members and key figures, Sonko made it clear that his party would not support any initiative to push back the vote. « PASTEF will not consent to a delay in the local elections. We are fully prepared, » he declared, as the crowd erupted in applause.
He stressed that any attempt to postpone the elections must strictly adhere to the legal framework outlined in Senegal’s institutional procedures. « In Senegal, an election cannot be postponed without first passing through the National Assembly, » he emphasized, urging officials to follow the necessary steps to ensure the election proceeds as scheduled.
Sonko also weighed in on speculations surrounding the election timeline, urging swift action. « Let the President sign the decree. Delays won’t solve anything, » he stated firmly.
