Sonelgaz kicks off 40 MW power plant construction in N’Djamena
The Algerian energy giant Sonelgaz has dispatched a high-level delegation to N’Djamena to initiate the construction of a new 40 MW power plant in the Chad capital. This initiative aligns with Algeria’s strategic vision to bolster Africa-focused partnerships and deepen South-South collaboration, particularly with Chad.
The delegation, led by Sonelgaz-International CEO Yazid Djellouli, held productive meetings with key stakeholders. They were received by Tchad-Elec (Chad’s national electricity utility) executives, the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, and senior officials from Chad’s Ministry of Energy. A high-level audience with Tahir Hamid Nguilin, Chad’s Minister of State for Finance, Budget, Economy, Planning, and International Cooperation, and Passalé Kanabé Marcelin, Minister of Water and Energy, underscored the project’s strategic importance in strengthening economic and energy ties between the two nations.
The delegation engaged in comprehensive technical discussions with Tchad-Elec representatives, focusing on:
- Project technical specifications and regulatory compliance;
- Preparatory phase priorities;
- On-site coordination mechanisms for joint teams;
- Establishment of a shared roadmap;
- Formation of bilateral working groups.
These preparatory steps will ensure seamless collaboration before technical site inspections begin. The delegation will conduct a thorough assessment of the proposed location, evaluating existing infrastructure, grid connection feasibility, and compliance with national and international technical standards. These activities pave the way for the construction phase, which will adhere to the highest quality and efficiency benchmarks.
This collaborative effort reflects the shared commitment of both nations to forge a sustainable energy partnership. It also demonstrates Sonelgaz’s dedication to supporting African partners through integrated solutions that include expertise transfer, technical capacity building, and practical solutions tailored to the continent’s energy development needs.
