The Senegalese healthcare system just took a major leap forward with the opening of the Dakar International Polyclinic (DIP). Nestled between the Dakar Principal Hospital and the Corniche Ouest, this 2,500 m² medical facility is designed to slash foreign medical evacuations while positioning Dakar as West Africa’s premier medical destination.

The polyclinic, classified as a Level 4 facility, blends cutting-edge medical technology with premium patient care. It starts with 110 beds—expandable as demand grows—and consolidates multiple specialties under one roof.

Next-generation medical technology

The new center operates through cross-disciplinary units, merging civilian and military specialists to deliver comprehensive patient care. Its emergency and critical care division features two intensive care units with 12 beds, fully equipped with ventilators and hemodialysis machines. A rooftop helipad will further speed up transfers for urgent cases.

The facility also houses a dedicated oncology wing, including onco-hematology and radiotherapy, along with rehabilitation services like balneotherapy and physiotherapy.

Officials confirm the polyclinic is equipped for advanced procedures, including kidney and liver transplants.

Digital-first patient care

The Dakar International Polyclinic is embracing full digitalization with a “paperless” workflow. Electronic patient records will track each individual’s journey from admission to the operating room. A 24/7 call center, online booking system, and in-person reception desk ensure seamless access to services.

Boosting healthcare independence

The project aligns with Senegal’s push for health sovereignty, aiming to provide advanced care that currently forces many patients abroad. Reducing overseas evacuations will curb costs, cut travel and visa hassles, and keep families together during treatment.

The initiative stems from a partnership between Senegal and Türkiye, led by the Sila Group. It also seeks to attract medical tourists from across West Africa.

Phased rollout underway

Though the polyclinic is now open, it’s running in testing mode to fine-tune safety protocols and patient pathways. First official patients are expected next week.

With its advanced check-up center and specialized care, the Dakar International Polyclinic is set to elevate Senegal’s—and West Africa’s—medical standards. Success, however, hinges on affordable pricing, top-tier service quality, and seamless integration with Senegal’s broader healthcare network.
