National dialogue praised for strengthening Senegal’s stability
The Director-General of Senegal’s Agency for Security and Proximity (ASP), Seydina Oumar Touré, has hailed the national dialogue initiative spearheaded by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye as a pivotal move toward reinforcing the country’s stability. Amid heightened political tensions, he emphasized the indispensable values of tolerance and peace as bedrocks of national cohesion.

In a statement centered on political stability, dialogue, and the preservation of republican values, Seydina Oumar Touré highlighted Senegal’s resilience compared to neighboring nations facing instability. He attributed this achievement to a deep-rooted national consciousness that transcends ethnic, religious, and political divides—a legacy nurtured through generations of shared sacrifice.
The enduring tradition of dialogue in Senegal
Seydina Oumar Touré underscored that anchoring dialogue as a governance cornerstone isn’t a radical departure but a continuation of Senegal’s historical political ethos. He championed lasting values such as tolerance, forgiveness, mutual acceptance, constructive debate, and collective progress, traits he described as constants since the nation’s 1960 independence.
He cautioned against the corrosive effects of hate speech, intolerance, violence, and grudge-driven narratives, warning that such forces could erode social harmony and destabilize the nation. Reflecting on Senegal’s political evolution, he noted that past crises and transitions were navigated successfully through dialogue and inclusive negotiations.
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s call for inclusive dialogue
Seydina Oumar Touré commended President Bassirou Diomaye Faye for initiating a national dialogue grounded in attentiveness, collaboration, and consensus-building. He framed the president’s approach as essential for safeguarding the Senegalese spirit, advocating for a dialogue that is permanent, inclusive, and sincere to ensure the nation’s future prosperity.
