Dakar and the World Bank have strengthened their collaboration with a significant financial boost. During a meeting with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on August 5, Ousmane Diagana, the institution’s Vice-President for West and Central Africa, unveiled a 340 billion FCFA ($598.4 million) package. This funding targets Senegal’s strategic sectors, reflecting renewed confidence in the government’s reform agenda.
Funding to accelerate national priorities
This financial injection will support critical projects across multiple domains, including agriculture, transportation, and resilience programs specifically designed for youth and women — pivotal pillars for sustainable growth.
Confidence in reform momentum
Beyond the direct funding, the World Bank’s commitment includes budgetary support and expanded results-based financing mechanisms. These endorsements underscore the international institution’s faith in the reforms spearheaded by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s administration, aimed at enhancing public policy effectiveness and accelerating economic transformation.
Energy, agriculture and governance take center stage
The discussions highlighted key focus areas: lowering energy costs and accelerating solar transition; bolstering agricultural resilience to secure food sovereignty; improving the business climate; modernizing public finances; and strengthening governance frameworks.
Partnership roadmap aligned with Senegal 2050 vision
The two parties also reviewed plans for a new partnership framework to guide their collaboration over the next decade. This initiative will align with Senegal’s Vision 2050 agenda, the government’s blueprint for long-term economic transformation and enhanced national competitiveness.
