In a bold public statement, Babacar Bâ, President of the Forum du justiciable, has sharply criticized Ousmane Sonko for what he describes as a glaring contradiction in the former Prime Minister’s stance on political transparency. Bâ, a prominent human rights advocate, highlights the irony of Sonko’s current position as a self-proclaimed champion of integrity and good governance, given his own admission to managing a political fund exceeding 1.7 billion CFA francs during his time in office as Prime Minister.
The Forum du justiciable leader underscores that Sonko, who previously condemned the state’s so-called “caisses noires” (slush funds), now stands accused of overseeing the very mechanisms he once criticized. Bâ has made political fund transparency a central issue in recent months, repeatedly urging the Presidency, Prime Minister’s office, and National Assembly to disclose their financial allocations and submit to audits by the Cour des comptes.
Describing Senegal’s governance as a farce, Babacar Bâ has shifted from technical critiques of public finance management to a more urgent call for the Senegalese people to wake up, unite, and reclaim their future. His rhetoric contrasts sharply with his earlier, more measured appeals for accountability in the handling of public funds.
