The municipal council of Pobè officially elected Liamidi Odouchinan as its new mayor on Wednesday, July 8. This appointment follows the departure of Clément Kouchadé, who was named Minister of Secondary Education in May.

The commune of Pobè now has a new leader. During its session on Wednesday, July 8, the communal council formally installed Liamidi Odouchinan as the head of the local executive. His election concludes the interim period that began after Clément Kouchadé’s elevation to a governmental position.
A prominent figure within the Union Progressiste Le Renouveau (UP Le Renouveau) party, Liamidi Odouchinan previously served on the communal council as Clément Kouchadé’s alternate. He also held the significant role of chief of staff for the former mayor.
Odouchinan’s ascent within the communal council was necessitated by Clément Kouchadé’s appointment as Minister of Secondary, Technical, and Vocational Education. This ministerial role, part of the government formed on May 24 by President Romuald Wadagni, created a vacancy in the mayoral office.
During the period awaiting a new permanent officeholder, the responsibilities of mayor were temporarily managed by the first deputy mayor, Koukpo Zinsou Côme. This interim arrangement, formalized by a prefectural decree on June 1, 2026, was crucial for ensuring the uninterrupted operation of the communal administration.
With his recent election, Liamidi Odouchinan officially assumes leadership of the Pobè municipality. He is now tasked with guiding the commune’s initiatives and advancing ongoing projects focused on local development and enhancing essential public services for residents.
