The Patriotes africains du Sénégal pour le travail, l’éthique et la fraternité (Pastef) is gearing up for its first-ever national elective congress, scheduled for June 6–7, 2026, in Dakar. The landmark gathering will focus on electing the party’s new leadership while setting the strategic direction for the coming years. Ahead of the event, the party’s High Authority for Regulation (HARP) has released the list of eligible candidates for the top position.
As expected, incumbent leader Ousmane Sonko, who also serves as Prime Minister, is the sole candidate vying for his own re-election. Meanwhile, seven aspirants saw their candidacies rejected due to missing documentation or procedural irregularities. The HARP cited incomplete files—such as missing identification or membership cards—as well as unresolved discrepancies that fell outside the correction window after the May 20 deadline.
The congress, chaired by Sonko himself, will not only determine the party’s future leadership but also outline key policy priorities ahead of critical electoral milestones. These include municipal elections slated for 2027 and the presidential race in 2029, positioning the party at the center of Senegal’s political landscape in the coming years.
