Ousmane Sonko’s political funds under scrutiny after Abdourahmane Diouf’s revelations

Ousmane Sonko during political fund discussions

A bombshell claim from Senegal’s Minister of Petroleum and Energy has reignited tensions in the country’s political arena. Abdourahmane Diouf alleges that Ousmane Sonko requested additional political funds after depleting his allocated budget, casting fresh doubts on the saga.

The ongoing verbal sparring between the Pastef party and the Kiiraay movement shows no signs of abating. Without a neutral mediator to call a halt, each side continues to fire salvos of claims and counterclaims, revealing what they know—or believe they know—about the other.

The latest development comes from Abdourahmane Diouf, who, during an appearance on RS1’s program hosted by Migui Marième Ndiaye, addressed the controversial issue of the 1.77 billion CFA francs in secret funds held by Ousmane Sonko during his tenure as Prime Minister. But Diouf’s remarks didn’t stop there.

He asserted that after exhausting his allocated political funds, Sonko allegedly sought an additional budgetary injection. Yet critical questions remain unanswered: Was this request ever approved? And perhaps most importantly, where did this sensitive information originate? Theoretically, only two individuals could have had access to such details—the President of the Republic and the Minister of Budget.
