ousmane sonko rallies african unity at 85th upa session in Dakar

During the opening of the 85th session of the African Parliamentary Union (UPA) executive committee in Dakar, Ousmane Sonko, President of Senegal’s National Assembly, delivered a powerful address emphasizing the urgency of African unity and sovereignty.
With delegations from across the continent gathered in the Senegalese capital, Sonko extended a warm welcome, expressing his honor and pride in hosting this pivotal gathering. He conveyed the collective greetings of the National Assembly and the Senegalese people to all attending representatives.
The parliamentary leader highlighted the critical role of enhanced parliamentary cooperation in addressing Africa’s pressing challenges—political instability, economic disparities, and security threats. “In an era demanding collective resilience, strengthening parliamentary ties is not just beneficial but essential,” he affirmed.
Reaffirming his commitment to the panafrican ideal, Sonko stressed that Africa’s future must be shaped by Africans themselves, guided by shared values, aspirations, and sovereign interests. He expressed hope that this session would serve as a catalyst for deeper integration and the advancement of the continent’s collective ambitions.
Concluding his address, Sonko wished all delegates a productive stay in Dakar, ending with a rallying cry: “Long live African parliamentary cooperation. Long live a united and sovereign Africa.”
