Nice handed two closed-door matches following Allianz Riviera disturbances against Metz
The LFP Disciplinary Board has imposed strict penalties on OGC Nice following fan-related incidents during the final Ligue 1 match against Metz. The Allianz Riviera will host two matches behind closed doors, with one suspended match under probation. These sanctions stem from the «use and throwing of pyrotechnic devices, pitch invasions, and stadium damage at the final whistle» during the 34th and concluding fixture of the 2025-2026 season.
While Nice has already lodged an appeal to contest these rulings, the team faces an immediate challenge: playing the Ligue 1 relegation playoff return leg against AS Saint-Étienne on May 29 without spectators. The away leg at Geoffroy-Guichard on May 26 will already see Nice miss forward Elye Wahi, who is suspended. The club is actively pursuing all legal avenues to overturn the closed-door ruling before the decisive match.
In a parallel case, Paris Saint-Germain received a penalty of one closed-door match for the first Ligue 1 home game of the 2026-2027 season, specifically targeting the closure of the Auteuil stand due to «pyrotechnic use and visual expressions» observed during matches.
Additional suspensions handed down
Several players have also faced disciplinary action, with suspensions triggered either by accumulating five yellow cards or due to the activation of suspended penalties. Affected players include:
- Benjamin André (Lille)
- Mahdi Camara (Stade Rennais FC)
- Christian Mawissa (AS Monaco)
- Elye Wahi (OGC Nice)
The case involving FC Nantes, following the pitch invasion during their early match against Toulouse, remains pending further review.
