In a sweeping operation linked to Tabaski celebrations, joint forces comprising the Ministry of Livestock, the Sanitary Police Coordination and security services dismantled an illegal slaughter network operating in a Machaga district concession, located in N’Djamena’s 8th arrondissement. The crackdown revealed over 100 diseased cattle and 40 infected sheep, all acquired by an unidentified international NGO in collaboration with local accomplices. These animals were reportedly intended as charitable donations for public consumption during Tabaski.

The day after the raid, Dr. Ousmane Yosko Souhoumi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Livestock and Animal Production, personally inspected the site. His assessment confirmed severe animal welfare violations and potential public health risks.

Government takes decisive action to protect public health

Following his inspection, Dr. Souhoumi announced strict measures to mitigate the situation: all deceased animals must be incinerated immediately to prevent disease spread; surviving livestock will receive urgent veterinary care and rehabilitation; and heightened surveillance will be implemented to safeguard community health.

The operation underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing food safety regulations and protecting citizens from contaminated meat consumption, particularly during religious festivals.
