A group of around twenty Motards du Faso members concluded their ambitious Grand Tour Régional 2026 in Ouagadougou on August 11, wrapping up a 10-day journey covering approximately 3,000 kilometers across five West African nations. Departing from the Burkinabe capital on August 2, the motorcycling enthusiasts traversed Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Bénin and Nigeria, blending adventure with a strong road safety advocacy mission.
The expedition served multiple purposes: fostering camaraderie among regional motorcycling communities, showcasing Burkina Faso’s resilience, and most critically, raising awareness about mandatory helmet use. The journey’s demanding first leg—traveling from Ouagadougou to Accra in under 23 hours with breaks—set the tone for the physically and culturally enriching experience that followed.
Abel Aziz Konaté, president of the Motards du Faso, emphasized the tour’s dual objectives during the welcoming ceremony in Ouagadougou. « This regional initiative builds on our commitment to connect with fellow motorcyclists across West Africa, particularly those who joined our 72 Heures des Motards du Burkina event in September 2025, » he stated. The tour also highlighted Burkina Faso’s hospitality and cultural diversity through meet-and-greet sessions with local riders and communities.
The team’s synchronized arrival in each country underscored their professionalism and dedication. Equipped with protective gear and riding sleek motorcycles, they navigated diverse terrains while distributing helmets and safety information. Konaté stressed the importance of voluntary helmet adoption over enforcement: « The Ministry of Security’s efforts deserve support. Helmets should become second nature for all road users—not something imposed by penalties. Safety should be instinctive, not a chore. »
As the tour’s engines fall silent in Ouagadougou, the group is already planning future awareness campaigns. For the Motards du Faso, this road trip marks just one milestone in a broader mission to promote responsible riding and regional solidarity.
