Morocco strengthens commitment to peace, security, and development nexus at mombasa conference

Libye, Mohamed Arrouchi, crise libyenne,

Morocco is actively participating in the second Political Conference on the Peace, Security, and Development Nexus, taking place in Mombasa, Kenya, from July 11 to 12.

This crucial conference builds upon the foundational work of the first Political Conference on the Peace, Security, and Development Nexus, which was successfully hosted in Tangier from October 25 to 27, 2022. That inaugural event culminated in the adoption of the significant Tangier Declaration. This declaration established a comprehensive African vision for the nexus, emphasizing coordinated public policies, robust partnerships, and the implementation of concrete initiatives designed to foster lasting peace, enhanced security, and sustainable development across the African continent.

The Tangier Process has solidified its position as the premier continental platform for constructive dialogue concerning the intricate interdependence between peace, security, and development within Africa. It convenes essential continental and international stakeholders committed to this vital domain, including prominent entities such as the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the United Nations Development Programme, the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), and the African Development Bank.

The primary objective of this second conference is to meticulously assess the progress achieved in operationalizing the Tangier Declaration. Furthermore, participants aim to pinpoint effective operational strategies that can further strengthen the critical link between peace, security, and development throughout Africa.

Discussions during the conference are structured across five specialized panels. These sessions delve into key areas such as the practical implementation of the Tangier Declaration through thematic projects, the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and youth-driven innovations, the intricate relationship between security expenditures and economic development, strategies for mobilizing essential financing for Nexus projects, and valuable lessons gleaned from the African Union’s support for complex political transitions.

Representing the Kingdom, the Moroccan delegation, led by Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, who serves as the Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, is highlighting Morocco’s forward-thinking vision. This vision advocates for an integrated approach to peace, security, and development, firmly rooted in strengthening collaborative partnerships and championing African-led solutions that are precisely tailored to the continent’s unique priorities and realities.
