The future of Morocco-United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) collaboration took center stage during a high-level meeting in Addis Ababa between Mohamed Arrouchi, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and UNECA, and Claver Gatete, UNECA’s Executive Secretary. The discussions highlighted the Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to African integration and continental development.
During the talks, Mr. Gatete praised Morocco’s pivotal role in organizing the 58th session of the African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Conference, held in Tangier from March 28 to April 3. He also recognized the Kingdom’s consistent support for UNECA’s initiatives.
Innovative Moroccan vocational training took the spotlight as a key example of best practices. Gatete emphasized its unique model, which combines skill development, cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, and alignment with industrialization needs. He urged broader adoption of this approach across Africa, calling for greater recognition of Morocco’s successful models to facilitate knowledge sharing continent-wide.
Historical Moroccan engagement with UNECA since its 1958 founding was underscored. The Kingdom’s active participation in the Commission’s programs has consistently contributed to regional cooperation and accelerated economic integration across the continent.
