Olympique de Marseille are close to selling Mason Greenwood to balance the books, with AS Roma among the clubs interested after they qualified for the Champions League. The Marseille board hope to secure at least €50 million for the English forward, part of which will go to Manchester United, but Italian officials believe they can land him for a lower fee.

To generate funds, OM plan to sell Mason Greenwood, who is also courted by Atlético de Madrid, AS Roma, and Fenerbahçe. The asking price for the English striker is set at a minimum of €50 million. “Many suitors believe OM will discount Greenwood this summer because the club must sell players,” a source close to the Marseille management said this week. “But they are wrong – there are too many symbolic and financial stakes in this deal.”
Roma confident they can break OM’s resistance
Despite OM’s stance, Italian sources remain convinced the club will eventually give in. Reports from Rome indicate that AS Roma is confident they can complete the transfer of Mason Greenwood for €40 million plus bonuses. The Marseille side urgently needs cash, as the DNCG, the financial watchdog of French football, has requested additional documents before making its decision.
At what price will OM sell Greenwood?
Will Olympique de Marseille settle for less than €50 million for Mason Greenwood, as Roma’s leadership expects? Some analysts believe the current asking price is already a bargain. “I look at prices elsewhere in Europe today. Honestly, a player who can score around 20 goals each season in Ligue 1 for that sum – it’s nothing,” noted journalist Karim Bennani recently. “If I were OM, I would have inserted a clause to raise it to €60 million on July 1, then wait a bit to find a buyer.”
